Lee Jae Myung orders probe as bank cyberattacks spread to nonbank institutions

President Lee Jae Myung ordered a thorough investigation into data breaches that spread from Shinhan Bank to KB Kookmin Bank, Hana Bank and BNK Busan Bank, then to nonbank institutions Yegaram Savings Bank, with about 40,000 customers affected, and Hyundai Capital, where data on 146 housing loan agents was exposed. Financial regulators convened an emergency meeting with chief executives from banks, insurers, credit card companies, savings banks and fintechs to discuss countermeasures.
NoteFSC chairman Lee Eog-weon said the industry must stay on "the highest alert" as breaches hit savings banks and other finance companies alongside major banks. Regulators urged companies to join government-led AI security testing and speed up adopting AI-based security models.
