Korea issues consumer alert as AI hacking fears spread to insurers, brokerages

Korea's Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) issued a consumer alert at the "caution" level on Tuesday and began a monthlong response period after suspected AI-assisted attacks exposed personal information at seven financial firms. The FSS identified about 30 IP addresses associated with the attacks across multiple countries, and brokerages, insurers and card issuers are stepping up checks as regulators suspect the attackers were scanning a broad range of companies for weaknesses.

NoteKorea's response now reaches beyond the banks already hit, to insurers, brokerages and card issuers, suggesting the attackers' tooling could probe any financial firm with weak points across the sector.
