Mistral launches trillion-parameter Large 4, open weights to follow this month

Mistral AI opened a public preview of Mistral Large 4, a 1 trillion-parameter multimodal model trained on 3,800 Nvidia Grace Blackwell GPUs in the company's own European datacenters. Mistral says the model, nicknamed "Le Chonk," is state of the art among open models on cybersecurity, finance and law, and it will release the weights by the end of the month. The launch is funded by Mistral's €3 billion Series D, the largest equity round raised by a European technology company.

NoteMistral is pitching Large 4 straight at finance and cybersecurity work that closed models like Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra refuse, which gives banks and insurers an open-weight option they can run and audit on their own infrastructure once the weights land.
