MAS finalises AI risk guidelines for Singapore's financial institutions

MAS, Singapore's financial regulator, issued finalised Guidelines on AI Risk Management for financial institutions: firms must maintain inventories of their AI use and apply controls covering data governance, cybersecurity, testing and human oversight. Sections 3 and 4 take effect on 7 October 2027, and sections 5 and 6 apply from 7 October 2028. MAS also intends to consult the financial sector in 2027 on additional guidance for agentic AI.

NoteThe phased deadlines give Singapore's banks and insurers a fixed compliance clock, with full controls due by October 2028, and letting firms use existing governance structures keeps the bar reachable for smaller players while MAS still decides what agentic AI needs on top.
