Google DeepMind and GovTech deliver an on-device scam detection model

Google DeepMind and GovTech, the Government Technology Agency of Singapore, say their collaboration delivers an on-device scam detection model. Google DeepMind's Gemma model was fine-tuned on local scam conversations, including impersonations of banks, and the model triggers a real-time warning when it detects manipulative patterns. Scams make up over half of Singapore’s reported crimes, and account for more than S$4 billion in losses since 2019.
NoteGoogle says messaging platforms and operating system vendors can integrate these models directly, so banks tracking impersonation scams may want to watch where the model turns up next.
