Moonshot releases Kimi K3.1 Pro, with open weights due by Nov 4

Moonshot introduced Kimi K3.1 Pro, which it calls its most capable 3T-class open-weight model to date, with a 1-million-token context window. It is available on Kimi.ai, Kimi Work, Kimi Code and the Kimi API, and the full model weights will be released by Nov 4. Moonshot says that on an internal benchmark designed to stress-test factual accuracy, its claim-level hallucination rate fell from 23.4% for K3 to 8.3%.

NoteOpen weights matter to banks that want to run models on infrastructure they control, though the factual accuracy results here come from an internal Moonshot benchmark.

Bank Negara Malaysia and Bank of Thailand join MAS-led BLOOM digital money initiative

On October 23, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced that Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Bank of Thailand (BOT) have joined BLOOM as policymaker members. They will partner industry players to develop common approaches for the cross-border use of digital money. BLOOM's participation has also expanded to include Maybank, ShopeePay, Visa, Mastercard and the World Bank Group.

NoteTokenised deposits and regulated stablecoins are the use cases MAS names, so Southeast Asian banks and payment firms can watch BLOOM for the settlement frameworks that emerge.

Anthropic recommends companies consolidate sub-agents into a single agent

Anthropic recommends that companies evaluate whether they can consolidate sub-agents into a single agent that loads context on demand. In one comparison, Anthropic says the single-agent architecture ran about twice as fast as the multi-agent setup. It has published a migration kit on GitHub to help teams make the transition.

NoteFor banks building agents, the cost and latency case for fewer, broader agents may matter more than the number of specialists.

OpenAI reportedly pulling Anthropic customers with aggressive discounts

OpenAI is reportedly pulling major customers away from Anthropic with aggressive discounts, The Information reports. Rippling CEO Parker Conrad said his company boosted OpenAI's share of its coding workload from 16 to 52 percent, while Anthropic's share fell from 57 to 18 percent. Replit switched after OpenAI offered more than 30 percent off a contract worth over $100 million a year.

NoteFor banks buying AI seats, the price gap between labs is now part of the vendor choice.

Google DeepMind engineer resigns in protest of Pentagon contract

On October 21, The Intercept reported that Sofia Liguori, a research engineer at Google DeepMind, resigned in protest. She says she is disturbed by Google's military contracts with the U.S. and Israel. Spokesperson Tom Hewett said Google uses "a consistent process for reviewing and entering these contracts".

NoteThe story is about staff at a model lab. For banks and fintechs that rely on lab models, it is a reminder that a lab's military contracts can be disputed by its own researchers.
