Block unveils Dessa, a speech model it says has no text training data

Block, the company behind Square and Cash App, unveiled an AI speech model called Dessa. Block says Dessa processes speech directly as audio instead of converting it to text first, and that it runs locally on a MacBook Pro M4 Max. Dessa isn't publicly available yet, and Block is first looking for AI security researchers to test it.
NoteVoice is a common channel for customer service and fraud calls, so a model that works from audio directly is one for banks and payment firms to watch. Block has not said how it plans to use Dessa.
