OCC issues supervisory framework for examiners evaluating banks' use of AI

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which oversees large national banks, issued a supervisory framework to support its examiners in evaluating banks' use of AI. The OCC says examiners should not treat it as a separate and distinct risk category, and banks are not required to define a separate risk appetite for it. The OCC says the framework does not establish supervisory expectations for banks.

NoteFor risk teams, the framework points examiners at what an AI agent is allowed to do and what happens if it fails, which is a different question from how advanced the model is.
